Mishka Lysack, PhD
The Rev. Dr. Mishka Lysack is an assistant professor of social work at the University of Calgary and is Alberta Acts on Climate Change's project lead. Mishka has a background in the clergy, followed by a number of years in counselling and family therapy. Mishka's passion for the environment has placed him as a pioneer in the discipline of eco-social work. Greg Powell
Greg Powell has been seconded by the Pembina Institute to work full-time as the project coordinator of Alberta Acts on Climate Change. Greg has a background in environmental engineering and is part of Pembina's consulting group. Greg is an avid backcountry skier and is currently training for the Ironman triathlon in Penticton, BC in August 2010.
Alla Guelber
Alla Guelber is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Environmental Education and Communications through Royal Roads University in Victoria, BC. Alla is an outreach coordinator with Alberta Acts on Climate Change, focusing on community engagement and youth engagement.
One of Alla's main passions is youth environmental leadership. In partnership with Alberta Acts and Waterlution, Alla is organizing a 2 day residential workshop for young professionals focused on exploring the connection between vocation, sustainability, and social innovation. The Meaningful Work: Green Jobs + Social Innovation Retreat takes place April 30-May 2, 2010 in Kananaskis Village.
Jeff Rambharack
Jeff Rambharack is pursuing his master of sustainable energy development, a multi-disciplinary program offered at the University of Calgary. Jeff has a background in engineering and worked for several years as a software developer before shifting his focus to energy and environmental issues. Jeff lends his technical expertise to Alberta Acts on Climate Change by producing videos and maintaining the website. Jeff's knowledge of sustainable energy issues will play into a conference tentatively scheduled for June.
Lindsay Humber
Born in the Yukon, and raised on a traditional sailing schooner on Vancouver Island, Lindsay Humber has been connected to nature from a very young age. Since moving to Calgary, Lindsay has become a backcountry enthusiast who welcomes every opportunity to explore the mountains in Calgary's backyard. It is this love for nature combined with her background in anthropology that fuels her interest in climate change.
Lindsay is now writing her thesis for her master of environmental design at the University of Calgary. Her thesis focuses on water management in the Calgary Region, which is directly affected by a changing climate. She is an outreach coordinator with Alberta Acts on Climate Change with a focus on community engagement and supporting the March 12 video conference.
Joelle Badman
Joelle Badman is in the foundational year of her master of social work degree at the University of Calgary. Originally from New Brunswick, Joelle is one of the U of C's first social work students to do a practicum in the field of eco-social work. Joelle oversees the youth engagement initiatives at Alberta Acts on Climate Change.
Laura Kanik
Laura Kanik is in the last semester of her bachelor of social work at the University of Calgary, with a focus on sustainable community development. As an eco-social work practicum student with Alberta Acts on Climate Change Laura is involved with community engagement in municipalities outside of Calgary and on-going sustainability initiatives in Calgary. Laura has a passion for exploring and experiencing mountains and rivers at every chance she gets, and it is this love of the outdoors that fuels her interest in creating a sustainable future.
